Frontend Developer

3-5 years of experience as front-end developer, UI, UX; wireframes are available.

Details of prior work demonstrating JavaScript proficiency, and understanding of design principles (plugins, node packages, etc.). Must be able to explain the key factors for choosing a particular design, and how and what alternatives were evaluated.

Expert knowledge of CSS, CSS extension languages (Less, Sass), and CSS preprocessor tools. Expert knowledge of HTML5 and its best practices.

Proficiency in designing interfaces and building clickable prototypes using Sketch, Axure, InVision etc.

Knowledge of related tools and technologies including but not limited to CSS, JavaScript, HTML, XML, Bootstrap, React, and wireframe design tools. Must be able to design, build, and maintain reusable JavaScript, HTML and CSS code. Must be able to identify common design elements and optimize the code.

Familiarity with Agile software development methodology, rapid prototyping, version management and version control. Must be able to write technical documents, coordinate with test teams. Proficiency using Git version control.

Familiarity with creating and maintaining digital assets, such as interface design files, wireframes, and interactive mockups using relevant software tools.

Good communication skills.

Brief:

We are pursuing a complex set of problems that involve building for an international audience and for an industry that has largely been service-centric. As an SDE at GradRight, you’ll bring an unmatched customer-centricity to your work, with a focus on building for the long term and large scale.

Responsibilities:

1. Lead design discussions and decisions around building a scalable and modular front-end architecture
2. Write clean and modular code
3. Participate in sprint ceremonies and actively contribute to scaling the engineering organization from a process perspective
4. Stay on top of the software engineering ecosystem and propose new technologies/methodologies that can be adopted
5. Contribute to engineering hiring by conducting interviews
6. Manage and mentor a small team of junior engineers

Requirements:

1. At least 6 years experience as an SDE, with at least 2 years experience leading teams
2. Strong experience with vue.js
3. Able to write maintainable, scalable and unit-testable code
4. Strong understanding of software design principles and patterns
5. Excellent command over data structures and algorithms

How you fit in

Engineering is the executional function of EAGLE's software delivery wing. As a Senior Frontend Developer, you are expected to take control of complex B2C projects being built from scratch. Moreover, not only are you expected to write clean, tested, and maintainable code but you will also be a central part of a product team that iterates constantly, ships regularly, and learns continuously. You will have the creative freedom for learning, experimenting, and responsible risk-taking in a startup environment.

What your role consists of:

• Collaborate with engineers, UI/UX designers, and product owners to build & ship new features and maintain/enhance existing ones
• Design & develop engaging front-end and user interface solutions to address complex and valuable business problems
• Implement best practices of test-driven development, automated deployment, refactoring and code standards
• Tackle complex problems, consider multiple solutions, and determine the best course of action
• Assist with the API design, development, and documentation of our UI kit
• Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack

• Help inform product prioritisation and scoping decisions by evaluating technical complexity and risk

• Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes

• Maintain technical documentation

What you bring to this role:

• 3+ years experience working with JavaScript, HTML, CSS & React in a distributed, collaborative, agile environment while delivering solutions on a regular cadence
• An ownership mindset: you should look not only at what you’re asked to do, but ask why you’re doing it and how it impacts on the rest of the product, our customers, and whether it makes sense
• A deep understanding of React and an eye towards writing efficient, performant, and tested code
• Experience in core aspects of web application development, including design, development, performance, integration, analytics, usability, and accessibility

The venture is in ‘stealth mode’ as we lay the foundations for blast-off. It has been launched by a team with a history of entrepreneurial successes. These include one in the climate change space which services the Californian and North America carbon markets, and another which provides highly refined machine learning software to the energy arena in Asia.
