Backend Engineer - Java/Scala/Distributed System/NoSQL

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Node.js Developer with 1-2 years of experience to join our team. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in backend development, a solid understanding of JavaScript, Express.js, and familiarity with databases. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining server-side applications, collaborating with front-end teams, and ensuring optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Backend Development: Build and maintain server-side applications using Node.js and Express.js.
• API Development: Design and implement RESTful APIs to support various functionalities.
• Database Management: Work with both SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
• Code Quality & Testing: Write clean, reusable, and testable code while following best practices.
• Performance Optimization: Optimize applications for speed and scalability.
• Troubleshooting & Debugging: Identify and resolve application issues to ensure smooth operations.
• Security Implementation: Apply basic security measures to protect applications and data.
• Collaboration: Work closely with front-end developers to integrate UI components with backend logic.

Required Qualifications:

• 1-2 years of experience in Node.js backend development.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and ES6+ concepts.
• Hands-on experience with Express.js or similar frameworks.
• Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, React/Angular is a plus).
• Experience working with databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Basic understanding of asynchronous programming and event-driven architecture.
• Experience with Git for version control.
• Knowledge of basic cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP is a plus).
• Understanding of Docker and containerization is an advantage.
• Good problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge set to fetch data from multiple online sources, cleanse it and build APIs on top of it
• Develop a deep understanding of our vast data sources on the web and know exactly how, when, and which data to scrap, parse and store
• We're looking for people who will naturally take ownership of data products and who can bring a project all the way from a fast prototype to production.

Desired Candidate Profile

• At Least 1-2 years of experience
• Strong coding experience in Python (knowledge of Javascripts is a plus)
• Strong knowledge of scraping frameworks in Python (Request, Beautiful Soup)
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
• Knowledge in Version Control tools like GIT.
• Good understanding and hands-on with scheduling and managing tasks with cron.

Nice to have:

• Experience of having worked with elastic search
• Experience with multi-processing, multi-threading, and AWS/Azure is a plus
• Experience with web crawling is a plus
• Deploy server/related components to staging, live environments.
• Experience with cloud environments like AWS,etc as well as cloud solutions like Docker,Lambda, etc
• Experience in DevOps and related practices to improve development lifecycle, continuous delivery with high quality is an advantage.
• Compile and analyze data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement

As a Senior R&D Engineer, You will

• Design and build scalable complex systems with Java and Spring
• Contribute to the development of new features, debugging, and deliver timely fixes

Requirements

• B.E/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 10+ years or more of progressive software technology experience with at least 3 years in an architectural role.
• Completely hands on with technology and architecture. Start-up experience is a huge plus.
• Ability to quickly prototype and demonstrate technology value adds and educate + drive adoption within the extended technology team
• Excellent and robust understanding of scalable product system architecture(s), platforms and core technologies
• Demonstrated problem-solving and leadership skills to pursue correct engineering process in adverse conditions. Ability to embrace and demonstrate leadership beyond ownership
• Work with engineering leadership to setup and manage processes.
• Track record of thought leadership and out of the box thinking in the technology arena.
• Ability to work efficiently in an entrepreneurial and in a start-up environment
• A Java/Spring/Akka, Javascript or Golang rockstar.
• Deep and hands on knowledge of some of these technologies - MySQL, NodeJS, message brokers such as Kafka/RabbitMQ, NoSQL datastore such as Mongo, Cassandra, Arango, distributed caches such as Redis/memcached, container technology such as Docker and Kubernetes etc.
• Great proficiency in distributed systems design, with an ability to make the right trade-offs for creating future-proof solutions.
• Building quick PoCs and full-fledged solutions with various AWS managed services would be a big plus.
