Backend Developer (Node.js)

About the role:

We’re looking for a highly skilled and self-driven Node.js Software Development Engineer (SDE-2) to join our team on a contract basis. You’ll be responsible for building scalable backend services and APIs that power our products, with a focus on performance, security, and reliability.

As an SDE-2, you’re expected to take ownership of features end-to-end, mentor junior developers when needed, and contribute to architectural discussions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain RESTful, gRPC, and/or GraphQL APIs using Node.js
• Write clean, modular, and testable code
• Collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and DevOps teams
• Optimize existing codebases for performance and scalability
• Integrate with third-party services and internal microservices
• Participate in code reviews and ensure coding best practices are followed
• Write unit and integration tests (e.g., using Jest, Mocha, etc.)

Required Skills & Experience

• 3–5 years of experience building production-grade backend applications
• Strong proficiency in Node.js (Express.js, NestJS, or similar frameworks)
• Solid understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript
• Experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
• Experience building APIs that scale — rate limiting, caching, pagination, etc.
• Good understanding of async patterns (Promises, async/await, queues)
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Git workflows, and containerized deployments (Docker)
• Experience working with cloud services (AWS/GCP/Azure)

Nice to Have

• Experience with microservices architecture
• Familiarity with message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.)
• Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams
• Contributions to open-source projects or tech blogs

Requirements:

• Strong understanding of Nodejs & front-end Technology.

• Strong understanding of MEAN or MERN Stack.

• Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, RWD, Javascript, and JQuery.

• Bring 1+ years of Experience in Node with typescript or React.

• Strong OOPS ( Object Oriented Programming ) concepts.

• Good knowledge of browser caching, working with cookies and Java scripts for faster website loads.

• Mean/Mern Stack Developer with hands-on experience in Node.js, typescript, and angular.

• Experience developing and improving REST APIs.

• Experience working with AWS Clouds/Azure.

• Experience building web UI dashboards and other self-service solutions.

• Relational DB knowledge (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server).

• NoSQL knowledge (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, or Hadoop).

• Ability to recite design patterns.

• Experience leading Agile projects and getting results in Scrum or Kanban teams and workflows.

• Experience with practices such as Test-Driven Development (TDD) is a plus

• Write clean, secure, tested, and documented code.
• Design & enhance the Notion platform with new capabilities, as and when the need arises.
• Contribute to monitoring & scaling the architecture of the platform and the infrastructure.
• Write technical documentation, and contribute to determining internal processes.

• 6+ years of experience building scalable platforms. 
• Good understanding of database (Relational Or Nosql) internals like transactions, indexes. Experience in schema design.
• 2+ years of experience working on the AWS platform, and acquaintance with technologies like Elastic Beanstalk, AWS Lambda, Elastic Load Balancer.
• Good understanding of docker internals.
• Good communication skills, good leadership skills, attention to detail, a sound understanding of algorithms, and object-oriented programming.

• You're proficient with any part of our technology stack: React, TypeScript, Node.js, Memcached, Postgres, Docker, and Elasticsearch.
• You've heard of computing pioneers like Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay, and others—and understand why we're big fans of their work.
• You have interests outside of technology, such as in art, history, or social sciences.

Job Summary:

We want a techie at heart. Someone who is happy and curious to work on all aspects of software development.

Reporting directly to the CTO, you will be responsible for feature design, development, and continuously optimizing our tech stack.

• We are looking for an experienced software engineer with at least 5 years of experience in a startup or product environment. Ideally you have been involved in all aspects of software development from requirements gathering to design, development, deployment and post-release support. We are looking for all-round technical maturity. Our tech stack is Angular, Spring boot and Django/Python.
