They took so long that many wondered if they would come at all.
Yes, AngelList pricing plans for recruiting are finally here. They are based on the size of your company and start from $199/month and go all the way to $1999/month. Quite a big range!
What about the free plan?
The free plan is still there. However, many filters that were earlier available for free (such as selecting “Educational institutes” of candidates or their “industries”) are no longer included in the free plan. You will need to upgrade to use these filters.
Upgrade if you want to use filters
The pricing plans are based on filters that you use to find the candidates. Some older filters are shuffled around, while some news ones have been added.
Some filters look useful:
While some look less useful:
What I find interesting is that many filters are geared towards finding the candidates who are hard-to-catch. Filters such as “Applications to match ratio” or “Interested companies to match ratio” seem geared towards what other companies think of the candidate or how selecting the candidate is.
So is the new pricing worth it?
From the first look, it seems these pricing plans are designed for the US market, where AngelList has a larger density of users and companies have bigger recruiting budgets.
For countries like India, the price points look a little higher, but not entirely unaffordable for established startups/companies who anyway pay for Naukri or LinkedIn subscriptions. Whether they value AngelList’s filters well enough to pay INR 65K to 130K per month is the real question.
As for the smaller to midsized startups, that are the primary users of AngelList, this pricing can be puzzling. The free plan lacks some useful filters (“Education background” for instance) without which it will become hard to tackle the increasing noise on the platform. For an average startup with around 15–25 employees, the price point of INR 35000/month looks too high.
Also note that the pricing is recurring, which means you will need to remember cancelling it when your hiring activity stops.
How does this compare with CutShort?
I know you will ask this. But let me clarify – CutShort is quite different from AngelList.
CutShort is not a candidate database – it works based on matchmaking. You don’t need to use search and filters – instead – just tell it your preferences for each job and you’re done. CutShort matches candidates with your jobs and moves things forward faster. And it keeps learning automatically based on your actions and improves the matchmaking continuously. Watch this explainer video here.
Coming to the pricing. We do have a 100% free plan that offers unlimited number of replies on your jobs. The premium plans offer more features and higher usage limits and start at as little as $50/month which is 1/4th of AngelList’s starter plan.
What do you think about AngelList’s new pricing? If you’re looking to try an alternative, try CutShort here and you will likely never miss AngelList again. 🙂
