Job Summary:
As a Software Engineer II at OpenGov, you'll build best-in-class SaaS solutions that enable efficiency, transparency, and accountability within government agencies. You'll be a key member of our engineering team, delivering new features and improvements in a fast-paced, agile environment using modern technologies, including ReactJS, Javascript, GraphQL, and NodeJS.
A typical day in this role would provide opportunities to design, implement and optimize complex applications for speed and scalability, and resolve various unique technical challenges. Strong collaboration skills with the product, UX, and platform engineers coupled with the ability to execute quickly will enable your success.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and deploy high-quality software with minimum supervision
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following industry best practices.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and operational excellence
- Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to coding standards.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation within the team
- Contribute to OpenGov’s Engineering culture of innovation, leading-edge technology adoption and quality
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
- BA/BS in a computer-science-related discipline or equivalent experience required
- 3+ years of professional experience in developing cloud native applications.
- Proficiency in Java or C++ or C# or equivalent program language is required.
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, ReactJS, and NodeJS is required
- Proficiency in data structures, database concepts, algorithms and observability is required
- Working knowledge of event-driven architecture and Kafka preferred
- Working knowledge of ElasticSearch/OpenSearch preferred

You should have
- Degree in Computer Science or relevant field
- Strong knowledge and understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript
- Knowledge of multiple frontend languages and frameworks including HTML, CSS, SCSS, JavaScript and React.
- Knowledge of backend languages and frameworks primarily Node.js
- Familiarity with SQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL)
- Knowledge of Docker, and Kubernetes would be a plus.

Create decoupled, interactive web UIs using JavaScript (Angular, jQuery)
Aid in the development and ongoing maintenance of our DevOps platform (Ansible)

Technical Requirements:
3 to 7 years of experience developing and deploying web sites and applications
Experienced with Flask / Pyramid / Falcon
Experience with Agile / SCRUM practices
Experience setting up and managing servers.
Experience hand-coding HTML and CSS
Experience with JavaScript development
Some experience with DevOps practices and platforms ( AWS )
e-commerce integration and custom development
Custom web-based application development experience (startup experience is a bonus)
Comfortable collaborating with designers, front-end developers, and other team members
Object-oriented design and development strategies
Web services / ReST API design is Key
Understanding of Microservices is a bonus
MVC, Angular, ASP.Net, MY SQL, Azure or AWS
Proficient in working with systems infrastructure, creating, querying, and manipulating databases, APIs, and integrations.
Deep expertise and hands-on experience with Web Applications and programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and API's.
SKILLs
Required Technical Experience: Frontend code (HTML5/CSS, ReactJS, D3JS) and web stack back-end technologies (.net Core, NodeJs), MongoDB, Docker, Git, Jenkins
Preferred Technical Experience: React/ Redux/Hook, GraphQL, HANA-SQL, Redis, Golang, Kafka, etc.
Implement Security OAuth/JWT solutions for the different API Scenarios
Deep functional knowledge or hands-on design experience with Micro-service is needed to be successful in this position. Also, the candidate should have a sound understanding of CI/CD processes, agile development, possess a deep understanding of programming fundamentals, and can learn new frameworks, languages, and tools required on projects.
