Job Title: Application Development Engineer (Python – Backtesting & Index Platforms)

Role Overview

We are seeking a strong Python Application Engineer to help build a next-generation Index Backtesting and Rebalance Platform.

In this role, you will design and develop deterministic, scalable calculation engines that convert financial methodologies into production-grade software.

You will work on portfolio construction, rebalancing logic, and historical simulations while consuming reference and market data from Snowflake using python as your core processing tool.

Key Responsibilities

Engine Development: Design and implement modular, reusable Python components for index construction, rebalancing, and backtesting.

Large-Scale Simulation: Use Pandas, NumPy, and PySpark to run historical calculations across long time horizons and multiple index variants.

Workflow Integration: Integrate engines with orchestrators such as Airflow or Temporal using parameterized, config-driven execution.

Reference Data Consumption: Query and utilize pricing, security master, and corporate action data from Snowflake.

Quality & Reconciliation: Build automated test harnesses to validate outputs, compare against benchmarks, and guarantee reproducibility.

Performance Optimization: Improve runtime efficiency through vectorization, caching, and distributed computing patterns.

Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with Business, Index Ops, and Platform teams to accelerate research-to-production onboarding.

Required Technical Capabilities

Python Expertise: Strong proficiency in Python application development with emphasis on clean architecture and maintainable design.

Data & Numerical Libraries: Deep experience with Pandas and NumPy; working knowledge of PySpark for distributed workloads.

Financial Computation: Ability to implement portfolio mathematics, weighting algorithms, and time-series transformations.

Config-Driven Systems: Experience building rule-based or metadata-driven processing frameworks.

Database Skills: Strong SQL and experience consuming structured data from Snowflake.

Testing Discipline: Expertise in unit testing, regression testing, and deterministic replay of calculations.

Orchestration Integration: Familiarity with Airflow, Temporal, or similar workflow engines.

Requirements:

Software Engineer - II (Backend)

As a Software Engineer – II, you'll bring a good understanding of design and coding practices and apply these independently in development. In this role - you could expect to:

• Own the lifecycle of a feature from requirement analysis to deployment and post production processes
• Perform code reviews and support your team implement best practices
• Explore trade off's on module designs
• Continuously improve performance metrics of modules owned. Performs RCAs and deploys long term fixes.
• Implement initiatives that improve engineering efficiency and excellence
• Participate in the hiring and interview process for junior developers on your team

• No day is the same - you will create technical designs that support varying client requirements
• You'll design and develop full-stack web applications using the latest web technologies, primarily Python and Django
• Write code/unit tests and be part of the test-driven development environment
• Leverage your skills in industry-standard tools to deliver weekly code releases
• You'll work in a no silos environment, frequently collaborating with global teams and roles across the organization

Who you are:

• 7+ years of experience developing great web applications
• You can build products from scratch
• You have expertise in the Django backend framework

• You have dabbled in any one of these front-end frameworks - Angular, React, Vue

Job Description :

Summary : Major focus will be the development of server-side logic to ensure high performance and responsiveness to requests received from front-end. Deployment on the production server.

Responsibilities :

- Understanding the project requirement and coding the programs efficiently to meet the client's requirements to the closest proximity.

- Optimise output to run smoothly on multiple delivery platforms.

- Design and implement low-latency, high-availability, and performant applications.

- Integration of user interface elements developed by front-end developers with server-side logic.

- Integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system.

- Integration of data storage and third-party library/package into the application.

- Create or integrate any such thing manually if not available on standard package list.

- Create the best fitted and scalable database schema for particular business logic.

- Should be hands-on in reading large volumes of data from the database, or over HTTP(S)/WebSockets.

- Ensure programs and applications are bug-free and run smoothly.

Skills And Qualifications :

- Familiarity with Python web stacks and In-depth knowledge of different frameworks (Django, Flask, etc.)

- Understanding different types of Object Relational Mappers.

- Ability to work on multiple API integrations, and write modular reusable code.

- Understanding of the threading limitations of Python, and multi-process architecture

- Good knowledge of a server-side templating language.

- Basic understanding of front-end frameworks such as Angular, ReactJs, VueJs and technologies such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3

- Knowledge of user authentication and authorisation between multiple systems, servers, and environments

- Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
