Job description

We are looking for a skilled PHP Developer with strong experience in Laravel to build and maintain scalable, high-performance web applications. The ideal candidate should have solid backend fundamentals, experience with APIs, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend systems using PHP (Laravel framework)
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs and third-party services
• Optimize application performance, database queries, and API response times
• Design and manage database schemas (MySQL/PostgreSQL)
• Implement authentication, authorization, and secure coding practices
• Work with queues, cron jobs, and asynchronous processing
• Debug and resolve production issues efficiently
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a remote setup

Required Skills

• Strong experience in PHP and Laravel
• Good understanding of REST API development and integrations
• Solid knowledge of MySQL/PostgreSQL, indexing, and query optimization
• Experience with Git/version control
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix environment
• Understanding of MVC architecture and clean code practices

Good to Have

• Experience with caching tools (Redis/Memcached)
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS or similar)
• Experience with real-time features (WebSockets, Socket.io, etc.)
• Basic knowledge of frontend technologies (JavaScript/jQuery)

Develop, test, and maintain all APIs

• Manage and maintain SQL and No-SQL tables, data, and stored procedures within all databases

• Compile and analyze data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement

• Collaborating with the front-end developers and other team members to establish objectives and design more functional, cohesive code to enhance the user experience and support analytical products

• Troubleshoot and diagnose production issues

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software and new user-facing features across Novo’s products and services.
• Drive technical decisions on a multi-functional, Agile team alongside product management, product design, and engineering.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability and analyze feedback from customers and internal teams to identify issues and improvement opportunities. 
• Champion a passion for engineering best practices such as code quality, linting, and testing.
• Ensure our software is reliable, extensible, maintainable, debuggable, secure, well-tested and performs well under load.
• Mentor junior engineers in all aspects of planning, development and testing.
• Stay engaged with latest technologies and evaluate strategies to keep the Novo technology stack up to date.

• 5+ years experience in a highly technical role at a hyper-growth startup or fast-paced company.
• Extensive background designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and improving software.
• Good understanding of Node.js & Javascript.
• Demonstrated ability to translate business goals and initiatives into technical requirements.
• Strong understanding of SQL database.
• Demonstrable experience architecting scalable and cost effective solutions to ensure and support customer growth.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers in all aspects of planning, development and testing.
• Strong understanding of system design and architecture.
• Interest in engaging with latest technologies and evaluating strategies to keep the Novo technology stack up to date.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams effectively.

Job Responsibilities :

• Must have knowledge of at least two PHP frameworks out of Laravel, Cakephp, CodeIgniter and YII.
• Must have basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery.
• Knowledge of CMS architectures like Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal etc. will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of eCommerce frameworks like WooCommerce, Magento, OpenCart etc will be an added advantage.
• Good knowledge of Object-Oriented Concepts & a strong passion for Software Development.
• Strong Interaction and Design Sense
• Familiarity with LAMP stack (Apache, MySQL and phpMyAdmin)
• Comfortable with SQL and/or Script Programming.
• Experience in Designing & Developing Database in MySQL is a MUST.

Required Skills:

• Knowledge and/or willingness to learn, highly motivated.
• Fully comfortable working in English, both in written and spoken language.

Skills required:

3. Must have experience in MVC framework Laravel ( Must ) , CakePHP (2/3), CodeIgnitor, deep understanding of MVC architectures etc.

4. jQuery, BootStrap, JavaScript, CSS3, HTML5, AngularJS.

5. Must have Version Control knowledge of Git (preferred), SVN.

6. Must have experience in REST, SOAP API creation and integration for mobile applications.

7. Must be good in scalable programmng and coding PSR standards.
