The Opportunity

We're seeking a Founding Engineer to join our core team and shape the technical foundation of LITMAS. This is a rare opportunity to build a category-defining product from the ground up, working directly with the founders to create technology that will transform the US litigation market.

As a founding engineer, you'll have significant ownership over our technical architecture, product decisions, and company culture. Your code will directly impact how thousands of attorneys practice law.

What You'll Do

• Architect and build core platform features using Python, Node.js, Next.js, React, and MongoDB
• Design and implement production-grade LLM systems with advanced tool usage, RAG pipelines, and agent architectures
• Build AI workflows that combine multiple tools for legal research, validation, and document analysis
• Create scalable RAG infrastructure to handle thousands of legal documents with high accuracy
• Implement AI tool chains to provide agents tool inputs
• Design intuitive interfaces that make complex legal workflows simple and powerful
• Own end-to-end features from conception through deployment and iteration
• Establish engineering best practices for AI systems including evaluation, monitoring, and safety
• Collaborate directly with founders on product strategy and technical roadmap

What We're Looking For

Must-Haves

• Deployed production-grade LLM applications with demonstrable experience in:
• Tool usage and function calling
• RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) implementation at scale
• Agent architectures and multi-step reasoning
• Prompt engineering and optimization
• Knowledge of multiple LLM providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Cohere, open-source models)
• Background in building AI evaluation and monitoring systems
• Experience with document processing and OCR technologies
• 3+ years of production experience with Node.js, Python, Next.js, and React
• Strong MongoDB expertise including schema design and optimization
• Experience with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant, or similar)
• Full-stack mindset with ability to own features from database to UI
• Track record of shipping complex web applications at scale
• Deep understanding of LLM limitations, hallucination prevention, and validation techniques

Tech Stack

• Backend: Node.js, Express, MongoDB
• Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Modern CSS
• AI/ML: LangChain/LlamaIndex, OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, vector databases, custom AI tools

Interview Process

One more thing: Our process includes deep technical interviews and fit conversations. As part of the evaluation, there will be an extensive take-home test that should expect to take at least 4-5 hours depending on your skill level. This allows us to see how you approach real problems similar to what you'll encounter at LITMAS.

• As a lead engineer, you will be expected to execute and deliver large and complex projects end-to-end, with or without the involvement of other team members.
• Participate in code reviews, app architecture, and design discussions.
• Ensuring timely delivery of all product deliverables.
• Be the go-to person for the team for guidance and troubleshooting. 
• Mentoring junior developers and set best practices for coding, reviews, etc.
• Ensuring performance and scalability in all new product features being developed. 

• Overall of 5+ years of expertise in at least one dynamic programming language like Python and one MVC web framework, preferably Django.
• Experience in at least one frontend framework, preferably React.js
• Expertise in database modeling, preferably relational DB, spotting DB bottlenecks, and writing optimized DB queries.
• Expertise in all common AWS cloud technologies, knowledge of CI/CD tools, and workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Expertise in back-end programming language JavaScript , TypeScript , NodeJs
• Writing HTML , CSS , and JavaScript
• Working with RDBMS such as Postgres or MySQL
• Experience implementing testing platforms and unit tests Proficiency with Git Appreciation for clean and well-documented code
• Understanding of microservices and distributed systems

Good to haves:

‍Experience working with AWS infrastructure Docker or Kubernetes Message queues such as Kafka CI/ CD tools such as Jenkins

Requirements:

• Proven work experience as a Back-end developer In-depth understanding of the entire web development process (design , development and deployment)
• Hands on experience with programming languages like Node.js , Javascript Familiarity with front-end languages (e.g. HTML , JavaScript and CSS)
• Excellent analytical and time management skills
• BE/Btech degree in Computer Science or relevant field

• Design and develop new features using Full-stack development (Java/Spring/React/Angular/Mysql) for a cloud(AWS/others) and mobile product application in SOA/microservices architecture.
• Design awesome features and continuously improve them by exploring alternatives/technologies to make design improvements.
• Performance testing with Gatling (Scala).
• Work with CI/CD pipeline and tools (Docker, Ansible) to improve the build and deployment process.

Skills/Experience :

• Good coding/problem-solving skills and interest in learning new things will be the key.

• 1 or more years of professional experience in building web/mobile applications using Java or similar technologies (C#, Ruby, Python, Elixir, NodeJS).
• Experience in Spring Framework or similar frameworks.
• Experience in any DB (SQL/noSQL)
• Any experience in front-end development using React/Vue/Angular/similar frameworks.
• Any experience with Java/similar testing frameworks (JUnit/Mocks etc).

Front End developers

• Angular.JS experience
• MongoDB query and aggregation experience (not a database administrator)
• GraphQL experience

Backend Developers:

• Software development experience, one of Python (preferred) or Node.JS/Typescript)

Job Description :
