Backend Engineer

WeMakeScholars is an organization funded and supported by the Ministry of IT, Government of India under the 'Digital India Campaign'. We offer international education finance via scholarships and education loans, to study abroad aspirants. We are currently a 220 members team. Last financial year, we disbursed 2200 Cr in education loans to 8300 students across India.

We are looking for a PHP Developer who is keen to work in a startup environment esp. a product-based company. 

Job Overview

We are hiring developers (from 0 to 10 experience) with relevant knowledge and experience with the development and deployment of large-scale cloud-native enterprise systems on PHP, REST APIs, Node Js, Flutter, AWS & MySql. 

About Tech Department:

• Our internal tech team is responsible for end-to-end in-house tech support which includes and is not limited to design, development & deployment. 
• We are continuously developing and improvising our products to enhance customer and team experience.
• As we are in the Fintech space, our team has to ensure the database security of the application.

Job Summary 

• Participate in the full development life cycle, working within broadly defined parameters including design, development, testing, and maintenance of the existing application with minimal supervision.
• Work on optimization and performance improvement activities. Instrument and test performance metrics.
• Participate in peer-to-peer code reviews to improve the quality and maintenance of the codebase.
• Collaboration with multiple internal/external stakeholders such as product, business, DBA, and Dev Ops.
• Design and implement APIs for web/mobile (both Android & iOS) applications.
• To be available on call for the projects or features developed by you. Things break, and you will be responsible to fix it when it does.

Experience & Skills Required

• 2+ years of experience (we are hiring freshers too for junior positions)
• Hands-on experience and knowledge of engineering end-to-end systems.
• Understanding of the complete software development life cycle, including coding standards, and code reviews.
• Familiarity with multiple software development practices and tools
• Ability to write clean, modular, and loosely coupled code by the use of design patterns.
• Proficiency in the implementation of algorithms and the use of advanced data structures to solve problems in computing.
• A solid foundation and implementing principles of computer science are a must. Ex: object-oriented programming, concurrency, fundamentals of computer science, SQL databases. 

Responsibilities :

● Designing and developing robust and scalable server-side applications using Python, Flask, Django, or other relevant frameworks and technologies.

● Collaborating with other developers, data scientists, and data engineers to design and implement RESTful APIs, web services, and microservices architectures.

● Writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code, and reviewing the code of other team members to ensure consistency and adherence to best practices.

● Participating in code reviews, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure the quality and reliability of applications.

● Optimizing applications for performance, scalability, and security, and monitoring the production environment to ensure uptime and availability. ● Staying up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in web development, and evaluating and recommending new tools and frameworks as needed.

● Mentoring and coaching junior developers to ensure they grow and develop their skills and knowledge in line with the needs of the team and the organization.

● Communicating and collaborating effectively with other stakeholders, including product owners, project managers, and other development teams, to ensure projects are delivered on time and to specification.

You are a perfect match, if you have these qualification :

● Strong experience in Python and server-side development frameworks such as Flask or Django.

● Experience in building RESTful APIs, web services, and microservices architectures.

● Experience in using database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.

● Familiarity with cloud-based platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

● Knowledge of software development best practices such as Agile methodologies, Test-Driven Development (TDD), and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).

● Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

● Strong communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively with other stakeholders in a fast-paced environment

You have 3 to 14 yrs of software engineering & product delivery experience with strong

background in datastructures & algorithms

• You’ve proven software development credentials having successfully built complex

products

• You are experienced with one or more general programming languages (e.g. Java, C/C++,

Go). Ability to learn other coding languages as needed.

• You’ve proven software development credentials having successfully built complex

• You have a strong foundation in the fundamentals of computer science, with familiarity in

data structures, algorithms and a strong command of object-oriented principles.

• You have experience in one or more of the following areas: Server Backend, Distributed

and Parallel Systems, Full Stack Development (frontend and backend), Scalable Enterprise

Platforms and Applications, Application Security and Incident Management, Android,

iOS, and Machine Learning.

• You have a spark that separates you from the crowd and ability to think out of the box and

on your feet

• You possess multi-dimensional skills that make you a valuable co-worker in a fast,

changing and ambiguous environment

• You have the ability to learn other coding languages as needed real quick

• You are comfortable in working with a team that deals with ambiguity every day

You will be responsible for developing features on the application and integrations end to end. You will be working closely with the Technical Team to come up with high-quality, resilient, and highly performant applications.

• Design and develop SaaS-based applications based on microservices architecture.
• Work on the core backend and ensure it meets the performance benchmarks.
• API and Integrations.
• Designing and developing APIs for the front end to consume.
• Constantly improve the architecture of the application by clearing the technical backlog.
• Meeting both technical and consumer needs.
• Staying abreast of developments in web applications and programming languages.
• Work on the front end with ReactJS is a plus point.

• An enthusiastic individual with the following skills. We are open to promising candidates who are passionate about their work and are team players.

• OAuth, API Integrations.
• Overall 6+ yrs of experience.
• Agnostic/Polyglot with multiple tech stacks.
• Worked on open source technologies – NodeJS, ReactJS, MySQL, NoSQL, MongoDB, CouchDB, DynamoDB, Clickhouse, Kafka.
• Backend exposure – good knowledge of building and integrating APIs.
• Efficient in building microservices in combining server & front-end.
• Knowledge of cloud architecture.
• Excellent knowledge and understanding skills on OAuth.
• Should have sound working experience with relational and columnar DB.
• Should be innovative and communicative in approach.
• Will be responsible for functional/technical track of a project.

You will closely work with the engineering team and support the Product Team of Plum.
