Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Node.js Developer who is experienced with JavaScript/TypeScript, databases, and modern AI development tools. You will build and maintain backend applications, design scalable systems, and use AI tools to enhance development productivity. The role involves backend development, database management, API development, and cloud deployment.

What You’ll Be Doing

Backend Development

• Build and maintain Node.js applications, services, and APIs.
• Write clean, readable JavaScript/TypeScript code.
• Create and manage REST APIs; work with GraphQL when required.
• Develop microservices and containerized applications (Docker).
• Participate in code reviews and help maintain coding standards.

Database Work

• Design database schemas for PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Write optimized SQL and NoSQL queries.
• Implement indexing and manage database performance tuning.
• Handle database scaling and caching strategies.

AI Tools & Productivity

• Use AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, Tabnine).
• Integrate AI APIs (OpenAI, Claude) into backend applications.
• Build features powered by AI/ML capabilities.
• Use AI tools to debug and enhance code quality.

Deployment & Operations

• Deploy applications on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Set up CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
• Work with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Monitor backend services and perform troubleshooting.

Job Requirements

Must-Have (3 Years Experience)

• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and Express.js.
• Excellent understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript, ES6+, async/await.
• Experience with at least one major database: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis.
• Knowledge of API development (REST, GraphQL).
• Hands-on experience with Git and version control.
• Experience with testing tools like Jest, Mocha, or similar.

Bonus Skills (Good to Have)

• Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud.
• Docker, Kubernetes.
• CI/CD pipelines.
• Frontend exposure (React/Vue/Angular).
• Message queues: RabbitMQ, Kafka.
• Caching: Redis, Memcached.
• API security: JWT, OAuth2.

• Building components for the company's advanced health tech platform using Java, Solr, SpringBoot, DialogFlow
• Communicating effectively in a cross-functional product development team and present ideas and solutions effectively
• Participating in technical planning and requirements gathering phases including design, code, test, troubleshoot, and document engineering software applications
• Developing the Code as per the requirements
• Working with product team and constructing the tech roadmap
• Designing, building and scaling the company's backend microservices
• Maintaining code integrity and organization
• Applying all quality requirements to make the code production ready
• Developing and deploying new features to facilitate related procedures and tools if necessary

The Role:

Runo is looking for a Lead Backend Developer to join our team. The lead backend developer is responsible for scaling up the existing architecture to handle billions of requests every month (We are currently at a scale of 100 million requests per month). You will be contributing in architecting the database/reporting layer to support complex queries and data exports of millions of records. You will be a lead developer responsible for development of new software products and enhancements to existing products.

Our Ideal candidate:

• Proficiency in NodeJS.
• Expert knowledge of NoSQL Databases (MongoDB is preferred)
• Hands on experience of working on products handling more than a million requests per month
• 4-8 years of relevant professional work experience

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the product architecture in handling millions of requests per day.
• Optimizing the architecture for regional data zones.
• Develop high performance, reusable & bug free APIs
• Optimize the existing APIs for performance (by data denormalization/ decoupling the long running APIs using queues)
• Get familiar with the AWS Services like API Gateway, Lambdas, SNS, SQS, SES

Roles and responsibilities:

• Responsible for understanding functional and business requirements and translate them into effective code
• Provide support till deployment of code into production.
• Ownership for ensuring code optimization, problem diagnosis, and on-time delivery
• Implement solutions as per the pre-defined framework /guidelines and adherence to processes
• Finding an optimal solution for the problem statement
• Conduct peer code review.

What candidate should know about:

• Excellent hands-on experience with Node.Js, Express.Js, JavaScript
• Understanding the nature of asynchronous programming and its quirks and workarounds
• Excellent hands-on experience with MongoDB, Mongo aggregation, MySQL
• Ability to build REST services, Authentications, MVC applications
• Excellent Object Oriented Programming skills and ability to write modular, secure, scalable, and maintainable code
• Experience with Elastic Search, Redis.
• Knowledge about AWS components (S3, EC2, Cloudfront, Redis Clusters, etc.)
• Self-learning abilities are required
• Familiarity with upcoming new technologies is a strong plus

• Compile and analyze data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborating with the front-end developers and other team members to establish objectives and design more functional, cohesive codes to enhance the user experience.
• Developing ideas for new programs, products, or features by monitoring industry developments and trends.
• Recording data and reporting it to proper parties, such as clients or leadership.
• Participating in continuing education and training to remain current on best practices, learn new programming languages, and better assist other team members.
• Taking lead on projects, as needed.
