Frontend Engineer

React, TypeScript & Production Web Applications

About the Role:

Unico Connect is an AI-first technology partner that builds custom mobile, web, and AI products for clients across multiple geographies.

We are hiring a Frontend Engineer who will build production-grade web applications across customer engagements, partnering closely with designers, backend engineers, and AI engineers.

The mandatory requirement for this role is hands-on production experience shipping React applications, with ownership of at least one feature area end to end including state, API integration, and testing.

The role is hands-on.

Expect to implement complex flows, integrate with backend and AI services, contribute to a shared design system, write tests, and review the work of others.

A typical week includes a design handoff review, implementation of a new flow, a code review session, and a working call with a backend engineer on API contracts.

Responsibilities:

Production UI Development

Build production-grade React UI for customer engagements, including complex forms, dashboards, data-dense views, and AI-driven interactions.

API Integration

Integrate with REST and GraphQL APIs.

Handle authentication, streaming responses (Server-Sent Events, WebSockets), retries, and graceful error states.

State Management

Build state architecture using Redux, Zustand, Jotai, or equivalent.

Handle async state, optimistic updates, and cross-component coordination.

Design System Contribution

Implement components within an established design system.

Maintain token discipline and contribute back to shared components.

Testing

Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests using Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright or Cypress.

Performance and Accessibility

Profile and optimise rendering and bundle size.

Apply WCAG 2.1 AA practices in everyday work.

AI-Assisted Development

Use Claude, Cursor, and similar tools day to day.

Build discipline for reviewing and validating AI-generated code.

Requirements:

Hands-on Production React Experience (Mandatory)

Must have personally shipped at least one feature area end to end in a production React application, owning state, API integration, and testing.

POCs and internal tools alone do not qualify.

3 to 5 Years of Professional Frontend Engineering Experience

Strong JavaScript, TypeScript, and React

Solid with hooks, context, and modern patterns.

Working comfort with Next.js (SSR, SSG, app router).

State Management

Production experience with Redux, Zustand, Jotai, or equivalent.

CSS and Styling

Strong with Tailwind, CSS Modules, or CSS-in-JS.

Comfortable building responsive layouts.

REST and GraphQL

Comfortable consuming both.

Working knowledge of streaming responses and async patterns.

Testing Fluency

Jest, React Testing Library, and at least one of Playwright or Cypress.

Git and CI/CD Basics

Comfortable with feature branching, pull requests, and CI-integrated test runs.

Strong Written and Spoken English Communication

Nice to Have:

• Experience with editor or canvas UIs
• Storybook
• Animation libraries (Framer Motion, GSAP)
• Exposure to AI-driven UI patterns
• Visual regression testing tools

Technical Skills Required:

Responsibilities

• Build applications using JavaScript frameworks such as React.js, Vue.js or svelte.js

• Build reusable UI components, ensuring that UI code base is scalable and maintainable

• Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs

• Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability

• Good in writing unit test cases, and can follow test driven development approach

• Participate in user experience design and architecture initiatives

• Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery and elicit new

requirements

• Perform troubleshooting steps, if any, in the phase of implementation, customization, and

configuration

• Having good debugging skills and proficiency in tool to build next-generation web apps

Mandatory Skills

• Knowledge of Functional and OO JavaScript/ES6

• Built web Applications using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript with Frameworks like React.js(Hooks

and context API), Vue.Js and svelte.js

• Basic understanding of Typescript and type language concepts

• Clear fundamental understanding of server-side rendered apps, experience with frameworks like

Next,js or Nuxt.js is the Best

• Good understanding of lib and frameworks like Webpack (4.0), lodash, any charting lib like d3.js or

Victory

• Expertise in using JavaScript state Management libraries such as Redux or Mobx

• Prior experience in building responsive design layouts using a formal framework like Material UI.

• Familiarity with best practices (web security concepts, ensuring browser & device compatibility,

etc.)

• Experience in development and debugging tools for cross-browser issues

• Working knowledge of integrating with RESTful APIs for server-side functionality

• Ability to work well individually and in a group setting, under pressure and deadlines

Requirements

• B.Tech/ B.S. or M.Tech/ M.S. in Computer Science, IT or related field.

• 5-8 years of experience.

Desirable Skills

• Hands-on experience with using Git (handling branching and merging), any DevOps pipeline,

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Minimum 3-5 years of Experience in Java Backend development. 
• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science. 
• Good knowledge/experience in Data structure, Algorithms. 
• Proficiency with Programming Language: Java 1.8 and above (1.8 V must), J2EE. 
• Proficiency with Framework: Spring Stack (Security, Web MVC, REST), Hibernate, JMS. 

• Strong knowledge in any one Relational Databases (Mysql / Oracle / SQL Server). 
• Strong experience in Web services (SOAP and RESTFUL). 
• Tools & Utilities: STS / Eclipse / IntelliJ / NetBeans.Web/Application Server: Jboss. 
• Should have expertise in Design Patterns, Transactions, Multithreading concepts 
• Proficiency in Build Cycle management (Maven, Jenkins, Scripting). 

• Familiarity with Deployment technologies like Docker, Rancher and Virtual machines. 
• Familiarity with Agile Development processes. 
• Exposure to Spring Integration batch knowledge, OAuth2 authentication 
• Excellent verbal communication skills. 
• Good problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Your Day-to-Day Tasks Include: 

Ship product, independently and/or as part of a small team 

Collaborate with other engineers to build new features 

Debugging using dev consoles, firebug, firecookie, or any of your favorite tools. Help troubleshoot production issues and resolve critical customer facing issues Provide top-notch support to our customers 

You Should Have: 

3+ years of experience with React. 

A strong body of prior front end work, including significant projects written in React and Redux. Mastery of JavaScript; expertise in most of the following technologies, and proficiency in all of them: CSS3, HTML5, AJAX. 

Deep understanding of closures, prototypal inheritance, HTTP, web security, cross browser compatibility challenges. 

Experience with NodeJS and Express JS will be a plus 

Hands-on with a code management system like GIT, SVN. 

Experience with NoSQL databases, preferably CouchDB or CouchBase. 

Good to have: Experience with Typescript.
