ChakraHQ - Software Development Engineer II - Backend - NodeJS

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Lead in the design and development of robust, scalable, and efficient software solutions, ensuring the highest standards in all aspects of software development.
• Design and implement high-quality, test-driven, scalable backend code for various client projects using TypeScript and Nest.js Develop and maintain APIs to support consuming teams.
• Work closely with frontend teams to optimize REST API integrations, ensuring efficient data fetching and caching strategies.
• Create and maintain documentation, implement and follow best practices for development workflow.
• Partner closely with Project Managers and other teams to ensure the successful delivery of significant software projects, coordinating resources and managing timelines for smooth project execution.
• Efficiently prioritizes and plans complex tasks, and influences a respectful, inclusive work environment, fostering continuous learning and growthContribute innovative ideas to ensure we deliver the best solutions for our clients.
• Act as a technical mentor to more junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Strong proficiency in English (written and verbal communication) is required.
• Experience working with remote teams in North America and Latin America, ensuring smooth collaboration across time zones.
• Deep expertise with Typescript and NestJs framework.
• Experience with authentication workflows and authorization mechanisms (OAuth, JWT)Experience with testing frameworks and best practices, including unit testing, integration testing, and e2e testing.
• Solid understanding of web technologies in general.
• Solid understanding of backend design patterns.
• Experience with designing applications that use and consume databases (SQL, ORM, etc).

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Data Engineer with strong experience in Python programming and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join our data engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust and scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) data pipelines. The role involves working with various GCP services, implementing data ingestion and transformation logic, and ensuring data quality and consistency across systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable ETL data pipelines using Python.
• Work extensively on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services such as:
• Dataflow for real-time and batch data processing
• Cloud Functions for lightweight serverless compute
• BigQuery for data warehousing and analytics
• Cloud Composer for orchestration of data workflows (based on Apache Airflow)
• Google Cloud Storage (GCS) for managing data at scale
• IAM for access control and security
• Cloud Run for containerized applications
• Perform data ingestion from various sources and apply transformation and cleansing logic to ensure high-quality data delivery.
• Implement and enforce data quality checks, validation rules, and monitoring.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other engineering teams to understand data needs and deliver efficient data solutions.
• Manage version control using GitHub and participate in CI/CD pipeline deployments for data projects.
• Write complex SQL queries for data extraction and validation from relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
• Document pipeline designs, data flow diagrams, and operational support procedures.

Required Skills:

• 4–8 years of hands-on experience in Python for backend or data engineering projects.
• Strong understanding and working experience with GCP cloud services (especially Dataflow, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Cloud Composer, etc.).
• Solid understanding of data pipeline architecture, data integration, and transformation techniques.
• Experience in working with version control systems like GitHub and knowledge of CI/CD practices.
• Strong experience in SQL with at least one enterprise database (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.).

Responsibilities include:  

• Develop and maintain data validation logic in our proprietary Control Framework tool 
• Actively participate in business requirement elaboration and functional design sessions to develop an understanding of our Operational teams’ analytical needs, key data flows and sources 
• Assist Operational teams in the buildout of Checklists and event monitoring workflows within our Enterprise Control Framework platform 
• Build effective working relationships with Operational users, Reporting and IT development teams and business partners across the organization 
• Conduct interviews, generate user stories, develop scenarios and workflow analyses  
• Contribute to the definition of reporting solutions that empower Operational teams to make immediate decisions as to the best course of action 
• Perform some business user acceptance testing 
• Provide production support and troubleshooting for existing operational dashboards  
• Conduct regular demos and training of new features for the stakeholder community 

Qualifications  

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Accounting, Finance, MIS, Information Technology or related field of study 
• Minimum 5 years’ of SQL required 
• Experience querying data on cloud platforms (AWS/ Azure/ Snowflake) required 
• Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills, attention to detail and organization 
• Able to independently troubleshoot and gather supporting evidence  
• Prior experience developing within a BI reporting tool (e.g. Spotfire, Tableau, Looker, Information Builders) a plus  
• Database Management and ETL development experience a plus 
• Self-motivated, self-assured, and self-managed  
• Able to multi-task to meet time-driven goals  
• Asset management experience, including investment operation a plus
