Software Engineer, Low-Latency Systems

About the Role

We are hiring a Software Engineer, Low-Latency Systems to design and optimize the core infrastructure powering our algorithmic trading systems. In this role, you will work on latency-critical execution paths where nanoseconds, cache lines, memory layout, and network behavior matter.

This is a hands-on engineering position for someone who enjoys building high-performance systems and reasoning deeply about correctness, throughput, and tail latency. Prior trading domain experience is helpful but not required—we value engineering depth and systems thinking above all else.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

• Build Core Infrastructure: Design, develop, and maintain low-latency components including order routing, market data handling, and execution pipelines.
• Optimize Performance: Profile and optimize critical code paths to minimize throughput and tail latency.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with quant and trading teams to translate complex strategy requirements into highly efficient infrastructure primitives.
• Drive System Design: Contribute to architectural decisions around threading models, memory layout, and network stack configurations.
• Ensure Reliability: Improve observability and operational performance across trading infrastructure. Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and post-mortems to keep systems running smoothly.

What We’re Looking For (Requirements)

• Experience: 7 to 10 years of professional experience in systems engineering, with a demonstrable focus on low-latency systems or high-performance computing (HPC).
• Language Proficiency: Strong, production-level proficiency in Rust and/or C++.
• Systems Depth: Comfort reasoning about memory management, lock-free data structures, compiler behavior, and CPU-level performance.
• Tooling: Experience using Linux performance tooling such as perf, flamegraphs, strace, or similar tools.
• Networking Fundamentals: Solid understanding of network stack behavior, including TCP, UDP, multicast, and kernel bypass.
• Problem Solving: Ability to debug complex production issues and optimize systems under real-world constraints.

Nice to Have (Bonus Points)

• Prior exposure to trading systems, market data feeds, or exchange connectivity.
• Familiarity with financial market protocols (e.g., FIX, ITCH, OUCH).
• Experience with low-latency networking technologies like DPDK, RDMA, or kernel bypass.
• Familiarity with co-location environments and latency-sensitive infrastructure.

Job Summary and Duties:

This position will highlight new product development, as well as feature development and bug fixing of existing products serving the expanding big data, NAS, virtualization, replication, and file systems market. This position is required to be well rounded in operating system including all flavors of Linux, Windows, and MacOS. Building specialized core (user space and kernel space) software is the main function of this role.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

• Development and maintenance of new Primary Storage products.

• Investigating and resolving issues in existing products related application workflows, cross-platform interactions, and new operating systems.

• Triage and disposition incoming issues from support cases, customer interactions, and new feature requests.

Job Requirements:

• Minimum 8 years of combined education and experience including 5 years of C/C++ programming.

• Expertise with SMB/NFS networking protocol stacks (Samba).

• Filesystem VFS layer expertise (Samba VFS modules).

• Experience with Python and Linux shell programming.

• Experience with SAN and Ethernet networking technologies.

• Ability to work in a team environment.

• Strong communication skills.

Desired Skills:

• Knowledge of kernel internals including any of the following: Linux and Mac OS X.

• Interfaces with special purpose file system APIs and web services required.

• Knowledge and experience with container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker)

• Knowledge and experience with Virtualization technologies: ESX, KVM

• Experience working in an Agile environment using CI methodologies.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

• Lead one of the product verticals in the development of technology strategy, planning, hiring and execution of the next iteration of the WeInvest platform.

• Institutionalize a strong software engineering culture and facilitate a rapid, iterative, layered development approach.

• Be hands on with the coding, evaluate design and architecture choices, do in-depth code reviews, and implement standards and practices for software development.

• Inspire the engineering team to build quality, scalable code by pairing with team members periodically.

• Participate in the definition and management of high-quality product roadmaps based on business, product & tech strategy.

• Proactively identify and resolve strategic issues that may impair the team’s ability to meet strategic, financial, and technical goals.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Masters /BE/ B.Tech from a reputed institute

• About 6-10 years professional experience in software development.

• Excellent logical and analytical reasoning capabilities combined with strong knowledge of core

computer science concepts like algorithms, data structures, software design patterns, OOP etc.

• Should have experience in all the phases of SDLC

• Must have experience in leading a team. (At least 2-3 people)

• Be an expert in ruby on rails with experience OR from Fintech, Wealth Management OR Investment

• Management Domain with experience in any of the programming languages (Java/Python/Ruby).

• Breadth of experience in multiple technologies, tools, frameworks and processes is a big plus.

• Excellent understanding of core computer science concepts like algorithms, data structure,

Software design patterns, OOP etc. Be able to lead the team in design & architecture discussions,

introduce new tools, concepts & process to the team and guide other members of the team.

• Experience working in an agile team with software engineering practices like automated testing,

test- driven-development, continuous integration etc is a big plus.

• Excellent oral and written communication.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional server development experience using Java or similar object-oriented language
• Strong understanding of web-based architecture - web servers, load balancing, caching, databases etc.
• Basic knowledge of SQL (Postgres, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB)
• Experience developing data driven web applications
• Up-to-date knowledge of latest trends in web application development, including Amazon AWS ecosystem
• Experience building and using RESTful APIs

Nice to Have

• Experience with multi-threading, replication etc. concepts in cloud applications
• Familiarity with large scale business intelligence applications
