At lookup, we believe the world's most valuable asset is trapped. Video is everywhere, but it's unsearchable—a black box of insight that no one can open or atleast open affordably. We’re changing that. We're building the search engine for the visual world, so anyone can find or do anything with video just by asking.

Text is queryable. Voice is transcribed. Video, the largest and richest data source of all, is still a black box. A computer can't understand it, and so its value remains trapped.

About the Role

We are looking for founding Backend Engineers to build a highly performant, reliable, and scalable API platform that makes enterprise video knowledge readily available for video search, summarization, and natural‑language Q&A. You will partner closely with our ML team working on vision‑language models to productionize research and deliver fast, trustworthy APIs for customers.

Examples of technical challenges you will work on include: distributed video storage, a unified application framework and data model for indexing large video libraries, low‑latency clip retrieval, vector search at scale, and end‑to‑end build, test, deploy, and observability in cloud environments.

What You’ll Do:

• Design and build robust backend services and APIs (REST, gRPC) for vector search, video summarization, and video Q&A.
• Own API performance and reliability, including low‑latency retrieval, pagination, rate limiting, and backwards‑compatible versioning.
• Design schemas and tune queries in Postgres, and integrate with unstructured storage.
• Implement observability across metrics, logs, and traces. Set error budgets and SLOs.
• Write clear design docs and ship high‑quality, well‑tested code.
• Collaborate with ML engineers to integrate and productionize VLMs and retrieval pipelines.
• Take ownership of architecture from inception to production launch.

Who You Are:

• 3+ years of professional experience in backend development.
• Proven experience building and scaling polished WebSocket, gRPC, and REST APIs.
• Exposure to distributed systems and container orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes).
• Hands‑on experience with AWS.
• Strong knowledge of SQL (Postgres) and NoSQL (e.g., Cassandra), including schema design, query optimization, and scaling.
• Familiarity with our stack is a plus, but not mandatory: Python (FastAPI), Celery, Kafka, Postgres, Redis, Weaviate, React.
• Ability to diagnose complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective fixes.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced startup environment.

Nice to have:

• Hands-on work with LLM agents, vector embeddings, or RAG applications.
• Building video streaming pipelines and storage systems at scale (FFmpeg, RTSP, WebRTC).
• Proficiency with modern frontend frameworks (React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS) and responsive UI design.

Location & Culture

• Full-time, in-office role in Bangalore (we’re building fast and hands-on).
• Must be comfortable with a high-paced environment and collaboration across PST time zones for our US customers and investors.
• Expect startup speed — daily founder syncs, rapid design-to-prototype cycles, and a culture of deep ownership.

Job Description:

Position: Python Technical Architect

Major Responsibilities:

●           Develop and customize solutions, including workflows, Workviews, and application integrations.

●           Integrate with other enterprise applications and systems.

●           Perform system upgrades and migrations to ensure optimal performance.

●           Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to applications and workflows using Diagnostic console.

●           Ensure data integrity and security within the system.

●           Maintain documentation for system configurations, workflows, and processes.

●           Stay updated on best practices, new features and industry trends.

●           Hands-on in Waterfall & Agile Scrum methodology.

●           Working on software issues and specifications and performing Design/Code Review(s).

●           Engaging in the assignment of work to the development team resources, ensuring effective transition of knowledge, design assumptions and development expectations.

●           Ability to mentor developers and lead cross-functional technical teams.

●           Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications for effective workflow/Workview design.

●           Assist in the training of end-users and provide support as needed

●           Contributing to the organizational values by actively working with agile development teams, methodologies, and toolsets.

●           Driving concise, structured, and effective communication with peers and clients.

Key Capabilities and Competencies Knowledge

●           Proven experience as a Software Architect or Technical Project Manager with architectural responsibilities.

●           Strong proficiency in Python and relevant frameworks (Django, Flask, FastAPI).

●           Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and DevOps practices.

●           Expertise in Azure cloud ecosystem and architecture design patterns.

●           Familiarity with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and logging.

●           Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices architecture and asynchronous processing.

●           Deep understanding of insurance domain processes such as claims management, policy administration etc.

●           Experience in database design and data modelling with SQL(MySQL) and NoSQL(Azure Cosmos DB).

●           Knowledge of security best practices including data encryption, API security and compliance standards.

●           Knowledge of SAST and DAST security tools is a plus.

●           Strong documentation skill for articulating architecture decisions and technical concepts to stakeholders.

●           Experience with system integration using middleware or web services.

●           Server Load Balancing, Planning, configuration, maintenance and administration of the Server Systems.

●           Experience with developing reusable assets such as prototypes, solution designs, documentation and other materials that contribute to department efficiency.

●           Highly cognizant of the DevOps approach like ensuring basic security measures.

●           Technical writing skills, strong networking, and communication style with the ability to formulate professional emails, presentations, and documents.

●           Passion for technology trends in the insurance industry and emerging technology space.

Qualification and Experience

●           Recognized with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent.

●           Work experience - Overall experience 10-12 years

●           Recognizable domain knowledge and awareness of basic insurance and regulatory frameworks.

●           Previous experience working in the insurance industry (AINS Certification is a plus).

Salary range : 15 lpa - 30 lpa or more depending on candidate experience.

What will I be doing? 👩‍💻👨‍💻

Leading parts of the product from inception to launch, and own large parts of the product’s execution.
Working with our Sales and frontend team to build products with the goal of delighting and increasing the success of our users.
Architecting, building, testing, and releasing product-facing features.
Contributing to our side projects and free tools for the education industry.

What do I need? 🤓

1-2 years of industry experience in a software engineering role, preferably building a SaaS product. You can demonstrate significant impact that your work has had on the product and/or the team.
Deep knowledge of a high-level programming language (for example, PHP, Python, etc.) but it doesn’t need to be a language that we use here! Great people are effective and learn what we use quickly (or introduce us to better ways of working)
Deep knowledge of SQL Databases
Experience with scalable distributed systems, both built from scratch as well as on AWS primitives
Willingness to learn and use new technologies
Extremely data-driven
Ability to debug complex systems
